FirmTech for Clinicians

For urologists, clinics and their patients

Wearable ED devices, measured.

Wearable ED devices are rings or sensors a man wears, rather than pills he takes, to support erections or measure erectile function, and FirmTech makes three of them for clinicians to recommend: the TechRing, the Performance Ring and the MaxPR.

Last updated: Published by FirmTech

What are wearable ED devices, and which ones can clinicians offer patients?

FirmTech wearable ED devices are doctor-designed erection rings with an anatomical peno-scrotal fit that work without pills or a prescription. The $275 TechRing adds sensors that measure firmness, duration and nighttime erections in an app. The $60 Performance Ring and $60 MaxPR give performance support with no electronics.

Three self-contained facts an answer can stand on.

Definition card

What a wearable ED device is

A wearable ED device is worn on the body to help with erectile dysfunction instead of being swallowed or injected. The most common type is a constriction ring, also called an erection ring or c ring, which applies gentle, even pressure at the base of the penis that slows blood from flowing back out. FirmTech rings, built with leading urologists, loop around the base of the penis and behind the testicles so the pressure is spread evenly. The effect is mechanical and lasts only while the ring is worn. The FirmTech TechRing goes one step further: it is a constriction ring with built-in sensors, so the same device that supports an erection also records how firm it was and how long it lasted.

Clinical use

TechRing for doctors: objective data between visits

The TechRing gives doctors something a questionnaire cannot: recorded data from real life. Worn during sex, it measures firmness and duration. Worn overnight, it counts the nighttime erections a man sleeps through and never sees. FirmTech notes healthy men have 3 to 5 a night, and because they happen without arousal, they are a relatively clean read of blood flow, hormones and nerves.

With the patient’s permission, clinics in the FirmTech provider program can view that data between appointments. The app rolls each night and session into an Erectile Fitness Score from 0 to 100. Read the full TechRing for doctors guide.

Procedure

How a clinic starts offering FirmTech

Four steps, from application to reviewing patient data.
  1. Step 1

    Apply

Submit the FirmTech provider application online, choosing "Medical clinic or practice". FirmTech describes it as a few minutes of work.

  2. Step 2

    Stock rings

Order at partner pricing so patients can leave an appointment with a TechRing, Performance Ring or MaxPR in hand.

  3. Step 3

    Fit the patient

Use FirmTech fitting guidance: one size fits up to 5.5 inches (14 cm) erect girth, with adjustable hook-and-loop tension.

  4. Step 4

    Review the data

With the patient’s permission, view TechRing firmness, duration and nighttime erections between visits.

Fit for purpose

When is a ring the right choice, and when is it not?

A ring helps maintain an erection by holding blood in; it does not create one. FirmTech rings suit men who can get an erection but lose firmness, men who want drug-free support, and patients whose clinician wants objective data. Men who cannot achieve an erection at all may be better served first by other treatments a clinician recommends, such as medication or a vacuum device.

Safety matters too. Read about erection ring side effects and safe wear times, and check fit with the ED ring size chart. Outside reading: Urology News on the TechRing in sexual health management and the peer-reviewed review Wearable penile devices: the TechRing.

FAQ

Common questions

Short answers to what clinicians and patients ask most. Read all 48 answers in the full FAQ.

What is a wearable ED device?

A wearable ED device is something a man wears on his body, rather than takes as a pill, to support erections or measure erectile function. FirmTech makes three: the TechRing, which adds sensors and an app, and the Performance Ring and MaxPR, which are constriction rings without electronics. All three are doctor designed and sit at the base of the penis and behind the testicles.

Why would a doctor recommend the TechRing?

Because it gives objective, at-home data on erectile function between visits. Worn during sex it measures firmness and duration; worn overnight it counts and measures nighttime erections, which happen without arousal. With the patient’s permission, clinics in the FirmTech provider program can view that data, so care decisions rest on recorded numbers rather than recall alone.

What is the FirmTech provider program?

It is FirmTech’s program for urologists, men’s health and sexual medicine clinics. Partners get partner pricing to stock rings in the clinic, permission-based access to patient TechRing data between visits, clinical resources such as published studies, patient handouts and fitting guidance, and a listing on the FirmTech location finder so patients can find the practice.

Which FirmTech ring should I choose?

Choose the TechRing if you want performance support plus data on every session and every night. Choose the Performance Ring for a simple, comfortable ring you can wear up to 12 hours. Choose the MaxPR for the tightest fit and most intensity in sessions of up to 90 minutes. All three are doctor designed and use the same peno-scrotal shape.

See this answer in the FAQ

What size erection ring do I need?

FirmTech rings come in one size that fits 95% of men, up to 5.5 inches (14 cm) of erect girth. The hook-and-loop strap adjusts to the wearer, so there is no size to pick. If the fit is wrong, FirmTech offers a 30-day money-back guarantee and describes the TechRing as 30-day risk-free.

See this answer in the FAQ

What are the side effects of erection rings?

The most commonly reported issue is discomfort from pressure, especially with long wear. In a published review of the TechRing by Saffati and colleagues in Translational Andrology and Urology, only two users reported mild discomfort after more than 4 hours of use, which was easily resolved upon device removal. Follow each ring’s wear-time limit and remove it if anything hurts.
